Thanks for using Futamochi! If something’s not working, check the FAQ below first. Still stuck? Get in touch using the contact info at the bottom of this page.
Nope. Futamochi saves your data with the iCloud account (Apple Account) you’re already signed in to on your iPhone. There’s no password to make up and no email address to register.
Your photos, doodles, answers, memories, and everything else are stored in your own iCloud and shared only with the partner you’ve connected with. None of it is stored on our servers, and we can’t see what’s inside.
A few things, like notifications and the strokes in “Doodle together,” pass through our relay server. Those are encrypted first with keys that only your two iPhones have, so we can’t read them.
For details, see our Privacy Policy.
You need to be signed in to iCloud to use Futamochi.
Already signed in and still seeing this? Restart your iPhone, or go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and check that Futamochi isn’t turned off in the list of apps using iCloud (the exact wording varies by iOS version).
Even without signing in to iCloud, you can tap “Try the demo” on the welcome screen to get a feel for the app with the sample couple. Nothing you do in the demo is saved.
Futamochi uses your iCloud storage. When it’s full, you can’t save or send new photos or doodles (nothing you already have gets deleted).
For more, see Apple’s guide “Manage iCloud storage on your Apple devices.” Once there’s room again, anything that couldn’t be saved is sent again automatically.
The app shrinks photos before saving them, so each one takes up just a few hundred KB (way smaller than the original). Text and answers barely use any space. What you create is stored in your iCloud and what your partner creates is stored in theirs, so your partner’s photos never eat into your storage.
Sorry, no. Futamochi is iPhone-only and uses iCloud to save and share your data, so you both need an iPhone, each signed in to iCloud with your own Apple Account. There are no plans for an Android or web version right now.
Connecting can take anywhere from a few seconds to about a minute. Only send the invite link to the person you want to connect with.
Tap “Try the demo” on Home or on the iCloud setup screen to see what Futamochi looks like once you’re connected, using the sample couple. The demo runs only on your iPhone: nothing is saved, and nothing reaches your partner (tap “Exit” on the banner at the top to leave anytime). To use Premium features like today’s question, doodles, and Daily Log together, connect with your partner and get Premium, for example with the 7-day free trial on the Yearly plan (for eligible users; it becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends).
In My page, tap the row with your partner’s name, then tap “Disconnect.” You don’t need your partner’s OK. Sharing stops for both of you right away.
Nothing special. On your new iPhone, sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account as before, install Futamochi, and open it. Your data comes back automatically, and you stay connected with your partner.
Text, answers, and similar data are encrypted with keys stored in iCloud Keychain, so make sure iCloud Keychain is turned on on your new iPhone too (Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Passwords and Keychain; the wording varies by iOS version).
If you have lots of photos, it can take a little while for everything to show up. Staying on Wi-Fi helps.
On iPhone, you can use different Apple Accounts for iCloud (your data) and the App Store (your purchases). On your new iPhone, sign in to both iCloud and the App Store with the same Apple Accounts as before.
Text, answers, locations, doodle strokes, and similar data are encrypted with keys stored in iCloud Keychain, so they won’t show up until iCloud Keychain is working on your new iPhone. Try these steps in order:
Heads up: If you reset your end-to-end encrypted data during Apple Account recovery, this data can no longer be read, and neither Apple nor we can restore it. If you can, save a copy on your old iPhone with My page > “Export data” before recovering your account.
Your data is stored in the iCloud of the Apple Account you used, so it can’t be moved to a different one. Sign back in with your previous Apple Account and your data will show up again.
There’s also an animated walkthrough in the app under My page > “Widgets.”
iOS shows Lock Screen widgets in a single color. To see doodles in full color, use a Home Screen widget.
iOS limits how often widgets refresh to save battery, so updates can take a little while. Try these:
iOS doesn’t let apps change your wallpaper directly. But here’s how you can still get doodles on the Lock Screen:
Put the “Your partner now” widget on your Home Screen or the “Miss you” button widget on your Lock Screen, and just tap the button to send “Miss you” and more without opening the app. On iOS 18 or later, you can also add “Send ‘Miss you’” to Control Center. If your iPhone is locked, it’s sent after you unlock it.
By default, the day you got together counts as day 1. To start counting from day 0 instead, turn off “Count day one as day 1” in My page > “Couple settings.” Every-100-days milestones, monthly anniversaries, and yearly anniversaries are calculated automatically, and you’ll get a heads-up when they come around.
You’ll see your partner’s answer once you’ve answered the same question yourself. If your partner hasn’t answered yet, we’ll send you a notification when they do.
A day in Daily Log runs from 4 AM to 4 AM the next morning, so late nights still count as part of the same day.
Go to My page > “Delete all Futamochi data” to delete Futamochi’s data from your iCloud.
If Futamochi appears under Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Storage on your iPhone, you can delete it from there too.
No. Your data stays in your iCloud, so it comes back if you reinstall the app. If you want to delete your data too, use My page > “Delete all Futamochi data” before deleting the app.
Things your partner created are stored in their iCloud, so you can’t delete them. Ask your partner to delete them, or disconnect so they no longer show up for you.
Go to My page > “Export data” to export your memories, answers, and other data.
We can’t see or restore what’s in your iCloud or your partner’s. Deleted data can’t be recovered, so please delete with care.
In Futamochi, only two people can see them: you and the partner you’re connected with. There’s no public feed and no way to connect with strangers. We can’t see your content either. That said, your partner can save things, for example by taking a screenshot. For details, see our Privacy Policy.
No. We don’t show ads, and we don’t combine your data with other companies’ data for advertising (tracking).
Your partner’s app shows only the distance between you two and when it was last updated. No spot on a map, and no location history. Your location is rounded on your iPhone before it’s saved: to about 1 km (0.6 mi) with the rougher setting (the default), or to about 100 m (330 ft) with the more precise one. You can turn sharing off anytime, and turning it off also deletes your saved location.
Keep in mind that combining the distance with your partner’s own location could reveal roughly where you are. If that worries you, choose the rougher setting or turn sharing off.
In My page, tap the row with your partner’s name, then tap “Disconnect” to cut ties right away. Once you disconnect, you won’t get any more posts or notifications from them. They don’t get a notification.
